From an early age Ghoshal has been surrounded by music with her singer of a mother at the helm. At four years old she began her music lessons in Bengali, progressing and incorporating Hindu Classical music which she continued to study in her later years. As a recognised figure in Indian popular culture, on 26 June 2010 in the state of Ohio, Governor Ted Strickland declared it Shreya Ghoshal Day. In 2013, the Houses of Common in London honoured Ghoshal for her contribution to Indian music.
